On a war torn world can love become the heart's greatest duty?

The year is AD 2364. Humans have colonized seven worlds, including planet Serraine where clashes of culture between the continent-nations of Krillia and Albia have led to open hostilities. When an Albian civilian transport, The Rising Sun, is downed by anti-aircraft fire and one thousand people are killed, Krillia is blamed and civil war ensues. The Terran government remains politically neutral, but maintains a powerful diplomatic presence in both regions.

Excerpt

MARISTA KALJIN is a fledgling Deputy Administrator of Humanitarian Services in the Terran Diplomatic Corps, is dedicated to non-violence and rejects armed conflict as a means to achieve political goals.

Then one night, five victims of an air skimmer crash are brought to the station for emergency medical treatment. Marista cannot arbitrarily release the men without solid evidence they are criminals. In defiance of her own supervisor she extends the five survivors temporary sanctuary on neutral Terran soil.

TYNAN, once a high-ranking officer in the Albian military, defected to the enemy when he discovered the evidence used to blame Krillia for the destruction of the Rising Sun was falsified to purposely incite war. He knows Terra was a willing accomplice in the falsehood, and he will not trust a Terran, even one as seemingly compassionate as Marista Kaljin.

Peace or war. Talk or action. Duty to self or duty to a just cause. Marista and Tynan must find a way to breach their difference in a struggle to fulfill the heart's greatest duty - to love.
