“Lissa Michaels performs her own magic in her latest futuristic romance, REAL MAGIC. Those who have read her previous book, CAPTIVE HEARTS, will recognize many of the characters in this spellbinding sequel. For those who haven't had the pleasure, don't worry, I hadn't read CAPTIVE HEARTS beforehand either. However, the minute I read the last word, I immediately rushed to the Hardshell website to order it.
   “The author showcases her ability to create other worlds and people believably, as the reader moves to each new location while following Drake's hunt for his quarry. From the bar on planet Regula, to his spaceship Dryad, Jelena's homeworld of Coriandros, and all places in between, the vivid descriptions put one right there with the characters. While REAL MAGIC packs in quite a lot of action, the romance is never weakened, the two elements balancing beautifully. Drake's seductive appeal to Jelena's senses puzzles her given his unsavory reputation. Drake, equally unsettled by their growing bond, fights to suppress his desires. The resulting sexual tension between the two simmers throughout, pervading their dreams, increasing in intensity until it becomes a searing heat.

“If you like incredible magic, love, dedication to duty, and some real humor, then REAL MAGIC is the book for you. A world, make that cosmos, creator without peer, Ms. Michaels has done it again. REAL MAGIC is the real deal.
“In the beginning, the gods had many children in many galaxies. They were a bit tired of their youngest, human, so they scattered them across the Sullest Galaxy, hoping they would eventually live up to their potential, find each other, and live in peace. Toward that end, the gods chose one race of humans, the Nar'galira and gave them magic. Within that race were three factions: Sentinels, Executioners, and Guardians (they protected the path of destiny). One other race, the Bellarissians, rose so high they needed little help from anyone–and in that race the Nar'galira was little more than a myth.
“So, what happens when Jelena, a Guardian, is assigned to protect a Bellarissian, Drake Durand, the Magician—so-called because he made people disappear. To Jelena's thinking, he was one of the bad guys, but her assignment is to protect him. This leads to some extremely funny, interesting, touching, and just plain sexy scenes. With well realized characters, an extremely fresh and different plot, and action galore, REAL MAGIC can add magical enjoyment to your reading list. It's a keeper.”

“REAL MAGIC is a delight from start to finish, an exciting story that works on level after level. The writing is beautiful, the world-building consistent and richly detailed, and the characters wrenchingly real and almost painfully sympathetic. Deft pacing keeps the story moving at exactly the right clip. The feelings between Drake and Jelena grow gradually and believably out of the process of learning about each other, as they find the true humanity hidden beneath layers of necessary disguise and hard-won control. Secrets are doled out in measured doses, then more plot is built on those to create a complex and highly satisfying story. Lissa, I hope you're working on the next book in this series. I'm waiting for it.”
