Entertaining Read …….. Recommended

The narrative opens as Alexander Asenby creeps silently across his cluttered room, over the rickety floor to the magical closet door. He does this late, late every night while his parents peacefully sleep. Alexander knows the fairies are needing their heroic knight so, even though he is fearing the worst, Alex mounts his fearsome dragon and prepares for his nightly flight. Away he flies through the closet wall. A castle, a moat of hot lava, cheering fairies, trolls, the king of the fairies and ogres are all included in the tale.

Author Brooks and Illustrator Rajesh have created an enchanting work for children 3 - 8. Alexander Asenby’s Great Adventure is a 32 page picture book. The tale is told in child friendly verse. Charming Illustrations are a treat. Alexander Asenby’s Great Adventure is the first in an adventure series for children. Alexander will find many escapades and challenging experiences in the mystical world of make believe.

As I do with all children’s books, I took Alexander Asenby’s Great Adventure to school to read to my resident critics: fourth grade. Books meant for the younger children are listened to with an ear for what ‘little kids will like.’ My students know that I do book reviews of the books I read to them. The group take their job as critical listeners and analysts very seriously. The class expressed interest, consideration and total attention for the tale. During class discussion after reading, the children indicated they liked the verses, the story line and particularly the illustrations.

While the target audience for the Alexander Asenby’s Great Adventure is largely targeted for the 3 – 7 set, it is a work that also holds appeal to the 8 – 10 group. My class of 9 – 10 year-olds enjoyed the book and stated it is a book they might well choose to read to younger brothers and sisters. They agreed it is directed for ‘little kids,’ however, they stated they really like it too.

I also enjoyed the tale, the illustrations and the poetry. Because Alexander Asenby’s Great Adventure is a sturdy, well made edition it is proving to be a very good addition to our class library shelf. Alexander Asenby’s Great Adventure is being chosen, often, for ‘free reading’ time by students who are reading and enjoying it themselves as they prepare for our Monday "read to the kindergarten children" assignment.

Alexander Asenby’s Great Adventure is a good choice for children’s personal reading shelf, the school and classroom library and the homeschool reading curriculum. Alexander Asenby’s Great Adventure is a read-to for the younger set ages 3 – 7, a read alone for the 8 – 10 group.

Enjoyed the read, happy to recommend.
