As a driven, intelligent woman, Lyndsay has set out to achieve rapid progress up the corporate ladder at the Derwent, a posh hotel nestled in Deerfoot Falls, Washington. Only, there's a problem. Lyndsay panics at the thought of mingling with complete strangers and cringes at the back-slapping that occurs at the office.
Luke is Lyndsay's antithesis. He excels socially with his flair for small talk, his keen sense of humor, and his good looks. Leading a mysterious life, Luke often flees Deerfoot Falls for his beloved New York. Something - or someone - keeps drawing him back to Washington.
When trying to secure a big account for the hotel, a bet is made to see who will close the deal first - Lyndsay or Luke. If Lyndsay looses, she has to go on a date with Luke and if Luke looses, he has to leave Deerfoot Falls. This unlikely duo soon enters into a dangerous duel of emotions and psychological hang-ups that will change both of them forever.
Overall the story worked and had a coherent plot and contributing subplots. Regional terms, such as lift and washroom are not used in Washington state, but that is a minor detail. The author delves into the dark interior of the human psyche and examines the complexity of human relationships. I highly recommend this book. It will keep you guessing until the very end.
